The Scattered Jewels” is a fabulous collection of enchanting folk tales that will appeal to both children and
the child within most adults. The author, Evadne D’Oliveira, was inspired to write this book from a profound
desire to present her children and all children of Guyana with their own legends. Little did she imagine at the
time just how universally appealing and enduring these legends would become. Evadne was born in Guyana
where she started writing at a young age; she has written a number of award-winning poems and short stories, some of which were published as far back as the late 1960s. “The Scattered Jewels” was produced as a stage
play in Guyana and toured the country garnering much critical acclaim. Evadne was a columnist and editor
for newspapers both in Guyana and the United Kingdom. Founder and President of Maranatha Stage
Productions, Evadne was also a founding member and President of Operation Blessing Guyana, which
was established in Canada to provide medical supplies, personnel and aid to disadvantaged people in
Guyana. She emigrated to Canada in 1979, is currently retired and resides in Toronto.
